I. Teaching Material
牛津小学英语( FUN WITH ENGLISH ) Book 6A Unit 6 Holidays

II. Teaching Aims
1) Enable the students to know some ordinary countries in English and get them to know the languages they speak and the people they belong to respectively.
2) Raise the students' interest to learn English.
3) Encourage the students to have good cooperation with one another. encourage the students to learn more about the culture.

III. Teaching Contents
1) Patterns:   When’s …? It’s in/on….
             Did you …last…?  Yes, I did. No, I didn’t.
            What do people usually do on/at…? They usually….
2) Vocabulary: had, went, didn’t, delicious, dress up in, costume, moon cakes, relatives, New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Christmas, Mid-Autumn Festival

Some pictures, a computer and a CAI.

Ⅴ.Teaching Procedures
Step 1  Free talk and Self-introduction
  T: Let’s share the happy time together. You know I’m an English teacher ,but do you want to know about me ? You may ask me some questions. (Ss ask teacher some questions)
  T: Look at the screen, that’s my name card, do you have another questions? (Ss : What’s your hobby?)
  T: I like traveling and watching film. If I have a long holiday , I usually go traveling with my family.
【教学设计意图】抓住学生喜欢了解老师的心理,让学生通过与老师之间轻松愉快的对话,放松心情,在宽松的氛围中为进一步的学习作好准备。
Step 2. Presentation and Drill
1.Talk about the National Day holiday
T: About ten days ago, it was National Day holiday. I went to Hangzhou with my family. We enjoyed the happy holiday together. Did you go traveling on National Day holiday? If you did , you may say ‘ Yes,I did. /No. I didn’t.’(T—S , s---s make a dialogue about National Day holiday)
2.T: National Day holiday is a big holiday in China, but do you know any other big holidays in China?(Spring Festival, Mid—Autumn Festival)
3.T: I have four holidays on the screen, do you want to know them?(Yes) OK, let’s go.
Talk about Mid-Autumn Festival. (a:Guess: What holiday is it?  b : teach Mid-Autumn Festival c: make a sentence ‘ At Mid –Autumn Festival , I usually _____________.’)
4.Learn something about Spring Festival and then do ask and answer  (When’s Spring Festival? It’s in_________.What do people usually do at Spring Festival? They usually__________.)
【教学设计意图】在外语学习中,如果主体文化缺失,学习者就没有参照系统,在国际交往中没有自己的话语立场,无法就自己的民族文化与人交流,更谈不上文化扬弃能力,而文化扬弃能力在当今由英美强势文化主导的英语学习和跨文化交际中是必不可少的。学生既要学习了解英语文化,又要强化主体文化意识,掌握主体文化的精华,学会主体文化的外语表达。在教学中不能只是简单地导入外来文化,还要注意保留本民族文化,增加中国文化的含量。培养学生具有开放的心态与反思意识,平等对待不同的文化。
5.Know more about Halloween and Christmas (a: teach the words  b: do ask and answer)
6.T: Halloween and Christmas are big holidays in western countries, now look at the Bb, what colour are the letters?(Ss: Red ) So in western countries ,we call the holidays red-letter days.
【教学设计意图】在本课的教学中,教师应充分发挥“文化搭桥人”的作用。课前,教师可以把录像与歌曲中涉及的文化背景知识用易于学生接受的方式讲解清楚,并鼓励学生进行多渠道的相关资料的搜集与整理。在此过程中。学生将接触大量的文化知识并有目的性地进行有关材料的筛选。课上教师应及时把录像与歌曲中出现的文化内涵丰富的习语进行必要的解析。帮助学生积累一定的文化知识,达到文化教学的目的
Step 3 Learn the text
1.        Watch the flash ,answer the questions about the text.
Q1.Who is the teacher talking to the students.
Q2.What are they talking about?
Q3.How many holidays are there in the text? and what are they?
Q4.How are they feeling now?
2.Read the text and join the dots.

【教学设计意图】回归课文教学,培养学生的语篇阅读能力与策略,理解课文的文化内涵。
Step 4  Read the passage and choose the right answer.
Easter is a big holiday for Christians(基督教徒).It is in Spring. People usually make a lot of Easter eggs, and paint them colourful
When the children are sleeping, the parents hide(藏) the eggs. But the children do not know about this, they believe the Easter bunny(小兔子)comes at night and hides the Easter eggs.
    On Easter morning ,the children look for the eggs. It is great fun for them. Sometimes, there is a present for the child who finds the most(大多数) eggs. But everyone has a good time.
    Easter is a fun time for the whole family. It is a time to celebrate (庆祝)life.
 Choose the right answer:
1.(    ) When is Easter?  It’s in _____.  A) Summer  B)Spring   C) Autumn
2.(    ) On Easter morning ,the children ________.

【教学设计意图】形成文化移情,加深学生对他国文化的了解,增强学生对汉语和英语的文化的理解与互相促进,使其潜能得到充分发挥,为学生的后续发展与学习奠定基础。
Step 5   Group activity
Talk about your favourite holiday, and know more about the holidays
My favourite holiday is _______.It’s in/on ________.People usually___________. I like it very much, because___________________.
【教学设计意图】给学生自主选择话题的机会,让学生在表达的过程中,不自觉的充当起文化传播与交流的使者,是教学目标不再定位于文化的理解与接纳,而是提升为文化的交流与传播,这也是跨文化意识培养的核心所在。
Step 6  Home work
1.        Listen to the tape and read after the tape.
2.  Write something about your favourite holiday.
