Teaching Procedures:
Step1.Welcome to the Unit
1.Talk with the Ss freely about where they went to during the winter holiday. Let them show their pictures of the places they went to.

4)Did you visit your friends / play computer games/stay at home?

S: No, it isn’t in China. It is in Japan.
T: Good. You’re very clever. Mount Fuji is in Japan. It is the tallest mountain in Japan. Japan is one of the developed countries in the world. And Tokyo is the capital of Japan just as Beijing is the capital of China. Tokyo and Beijing are both important cities in their own countries.
3. Go through the pictures one by one; introduce some additional information about those countries.
4. Finish Part B. Read out the sentences loudly.

London: The Capital of Britain(英国)

Like Paris, London is a famous city with long history. Beautiful scenes(景色), mild climate(温和的气候), old culture(文化), advanced (先进的)education and flourishing(繁华的) business…London attracts many foreigners every year.
  If you want to take a trip to London, you shouldn't miss these places.
  Buckingham Palace(白金汉宫): It's the permanent residence(永久住所) of the Queen(女王). It was built for the Duck of Buckingham(白金汉公爵) in 1703 and during the later years, many buildings were added to it. In the Palace, there are large sum of(大量的) art works. The Palace is opened to public for two months each summer.
Big Ben(大笨钟): The famous London Clock is at the northern end of the House of Parliament(议院). The clock is very big. The tower(钟楼) is 320 feet high and the clock is 23 feet wide. The minute hands are 14 feet long. It was completed(完工) in 1859.
    Westminster Cathedral(威斯敏斯特大教堂): People used eight years to build the Westminster Cathedral (1895-1903). It has one of the finest choirs(唱诗班) in Britain. On the Bell Tower, which is 273 feet high, people can see much of London. It is the place for famous people to "live" after their death(死亡).
  Tower Bridge(塔桥): It's London's most famous landmark. Inside the twin towers, there are exhibitions(展览) about the stories of the bridge.
  London Zoo: Children must be interested in it! It was opened in 1828 and it's the most famous zoo in the world. You can see 650 animal species(种类) in the zoo.
The BT tower(电报塔), the classic cafes, the Chapel Street Market.


Paris(巴黎): The City of Romance(浪漫)

The high Eiffel Tower(埃费尔铁塔), the colorful streets, the beautiful river Seine, the glorious palaces, the romantic(浪漫的) people, the old history … Paris is a great place to all people in the world.
  As the capital of France(法国), Paris is a modern(现代的) city with a long and rich history. So many events(事件) took place here and there are so many places for the visitors to have a trip.
    The Tower Eiffel, which is 320 meters high, is the symbol(标志) of Paris. It was completed(完成) in 1889 for the centenary of the Revolution(革命百年纪念).
  The Arc de Triomphe(凯旋门) was finished in 1836. It's a world famous building, too.
 Old Notre-Dame(巴黎圣母院) attracts many foreign visitors since Victor Hugo(雨果,法国文豪) wrote a novel named Notre-Dame de Paris.
   Mussee du Louvre(卢浮宫) is one of the most famous museums in the world.
Enjoy yourselves in Disneyland(迪斯尼乐园) Paris, the first Disneyland in Europe(欧洲), boys and girls! Meet Mickey, fly with Dumbo and lost yourselves in wonderland(仙境)!
  There are many other places such as the Bastille(巴士底狱), Place de la Concorde(协和广场), Chateau de Versailles(凡尔赛宫), the Champs-Elysees(香榭丽大道),the parks and the zoo waiting for your visit.

Berlin(柏林): the Witness(历史) of the History

  Berlin is the capital of Germany. It is famous for its beautiful scenes and complex(复杂的) history.
  In the August of 1961, Berlin was divided into(分为) two parts: East Berlin and West Berlin.The Communist government(共产党政府) of the east built a 100-mile Berlin Wall. On October 3,1990, the east and the west unified(统一) again. The Berlin Wall was pushed over. A few sections(部分) of the wall were left to remind(提醒,纪念) the 28-year division(分裂) of the city.
Another famous building is the Victory Column(胜利女神柱). It is 61.5 m high
on the top of the column, the victory goddess(胜利女神) stands there.
 There are many museums in Berlin. Seven of them are on Museum Island(岛) and a few are in the city. The Checkpoint Charlie Museum(柏林墙博物馆) is one of the most visited museums. There are a lot of pictures to show the history and real life before the Wall was pushed over. There is a Jewish Museum(犹太人博物馆) in Berlin.
  The parks, the Brandenburger Door(博兰登堡门), Gendermen Yard(尚达门场) and the streets are very beautiful. In the zoo, we even can visit several giant pandas that come from China!

Athens(雅典): A Cradle(摇篮) of Western Civilization(西方文明)

Athens, the capital of Greece(希腊), is an old and beautiful city. It's the country's heart and economic(经济) and industrial(工业) center, as well as the political(政治的) and cultural(文化的) center. You can get there by air, by land or by sea.
  Athens has a long history. There are many ancient buildings(古建筑) or remains(遗迹) in the city. The Pantheon(雅典娜神庙) is the most famous one. It is on the top of Acropolis(雅典卫城). The ancient market(市场), the Greek Parliament building(国会大厦), the national garden, Panathinaikon Stadium(露天运动场),Pnyka area and some other places attract(吸引) many visitors.
   The weather is pleasant in Athens. The visitors can enjoy a good trip in any season. Athens is famous for the olive(橄榄), honey and grapes (葡萄). The marble(大理石) and silver are very good.  In 2004, the 28th Olympic Games will be held in Athens.

句中的you like 作food 的定语,因为you like本身主谓齐全,是个完整的句子,因此在这里叫做定语从句。

Step 1. Lead-in
   Let Ss talk about “Sunshine Town”

Step 2. Presentation
1.        Show students a map of Sunshine Town.
Point at the places in it and ask:
Where is/are…?
Answer them by using “be north(…) of”
e.g. The school is north of the park.

Step 3. Practice
Look at the map, ask and answer in pairs.
e.g. S1: Where is the zoo?

Reading 1

Teaching procedures:
Step 1. Revision
1.        Revise the dialogue learned yesterday.
(Reciting or dictation)
2.        Make directions by using “north” “west” “east” “south” and so on.
Step 2. Presentation
Ask Ss some questions about the article.
1.        What did Kitty and Simon do at lunchtime?
2.        Who are the two boys?
Let Ss read the title and the first Para., and then answer the questions.
Play the tape from Line 1-15.
Let them find what the boy did and who is their friend.
Check the answers and then read after the tape.
Step 3. Find the clue words.
Let students go through the text as quickly as they can.
For 1 minute then ask them to close the books.
What word flashes on their mind, and make them speak out.
e.g. robbers, uniform, police, green van, knife, building, etc.
Write down these words on the Bb, and let Ss imagine what the story is.
Step 4. Listen and draw
Teach the new word “route”: way taken or planned to go to get from one place to another.
Ask: How did Paul and Justin escape?
What are their routes?
Listen to the tape, then draw the routes on P43

Using these phrases to retell the story as possible.

The third lesson
Reading 2
Objectives:
1.        To infer meaning from key words, context and existing knowledge.
2.        To understand a series of events and simultaneous actions.
3.        To identify specific detail by following a route and marking points on a map.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1. Revision
1.        Dictation of the phrases learned yesterday.
2.        Recite or retell the text
Step 2. Do exercises
Revise the new words first.
Give them some sentences and let Ss guess what the meaning is and what the word is.
Then do Part B 1 on their own for consolidation, as they have work on the words earlier.
Ask students to write the words and definitions in a vocabulary book to encourage independent learning.
Step 3. Do Part B 2
Ask students to read the text on the left on their own. They then choose the correct words from the box.
If there are any disagreements, ask students to check the meanings of the words by reading the text on P40 again.
Step 4. Do Part C
1.        Explain the content of Part C1 by taking students through it carefully. For stronger classes, tell students not to check back to P40 until they have completed the task.
2.        Divide the class into pairs. They work out together who said what and write the number of each statement in the correct speech bubbles.
3.        Before doing C2, revise the following expressions: straight, in front of, turn right into, turn left into
Step 5. Summary
Repeat the points of the article.

The Fourth lesson
Vocabulary and Grammar A
Objectives:
1.        To recognize expressions about directions.
2.        To give and respond to directions.

Step 1. Warm-up
Ask Ss about the escape routes in Reading. Let them speak out their own escape routes.
Step 2. Match work
P43 Ask students to match the words and symbols. Encourage them to guess the meaning of any symbols they do not know. Check answers as a class activity.
Step 3. Read a map
Ask students to draw a simple map of their local area on their own.
They should include their home, two landmarks in the area and the school.
Divide the class into pairs.
S1 gives his/her map to S2 and explain how to get from his/her home to another place on the map. Then roles change.
Step 4. Do Part B
Before doing it, list some useful expressions about asking and answering the way.

Objectives:
To recognize the use of “will” “shall” and “be going to” to talk about the future.
Step 1. Warm-up
Today is a fine day, shall we go to the park?
If we do, we’ll be very happy.
Step 2. The simple future tense
We have three ways of showing future.
1. will         所有人称
2. shall         第一人称 I, WE
3.        be going to
Step 3. Take students through the tables at the top of P46.
Make some other sample sentences as a class activity.
Give examples of positive sentences, negative sentences, asking and answering questions.
Step 4. Ask them to complete the conversation on their own. Set a time limit.
Divide the class into pairs and ask them to read the completed conversation. Check Ss’ comprehension and the use of “will”.
Step 5. P47 Part C
Explain the context.
Make sure that we focus on a particular time in the future and the idea of making plans.
Go through the sample sentences and provide more examples based on the students’ experience.
Help students identify the meaning of the words in the word box, and match them with the pictures. Then ask them to complete the sentences on their own.
In pairs, students check their answers.

The Sixth lesson
Integrated skills
Objectives:
1.        To recognize key expressions about directions.
2.        To understand directions in a new content of finding a hidden treasure
3.        To use key information given in instructions and identify the specific order from listening.
4.        To develop intensive listening skills by following instructions and marking a route
Step 1. Warm-up
Elicit from students situations from their own experience. Talk to students about treasure hunts.
Make a list on the board and ask others in the class whether they know them, like them and played similar games.
Do a survey
Step 2. What is a treasure hunt?
Ask Ss to check their knowledge of directions by completing Part A 1
Ss do this Part on their own first.
Then they check with a partner.
Go through the answers as a class activity.
Step 3. Listening
Play the recording.
Ask Ss to listen carefully so that they can identify the order of the directions.
Step 4. Read the map and play the recording again
Ss draw the route on the map using a pencil for the first listening.
Then tell Ss to draw a treasure chest in the correct position on the map.
Step 5. Giving directions
Revise the ways of giving direction learned before.
Play the tape and ask Ss to repeat the sentences as they hear them.
Then read Millie’s directions and draw a map.
Step 6. Practise
Ask Ss to practise the conversation in pairs and then to change roles.

The Seventh Lesson
Study Skills
Objectives:
1.        To use search engines effectively to find information on the Internet.
2.        To identify the meanings of words in different contexts,

Step 1. Warm-up
Elicit from Ss what they already know about the Internet. Ask if they know what “WWW” stands for(world wide web).
Step 2. What is a Web browser.
Do they know any common browers?
Netscape Netvigation and Internet Explorer?
What are they used to do?
They can help give directions to different websites and webpages, presenting information of all different kinds from around the world.
Step 3 Search engines
Name some common search engines:
Yahoo, Sina, Google
They provide a sort of sign posting to different kinds of information.
How to use?
They can enter a category, e.g. cartoon.
Step 4. Other key aspects
Ss give their ideas about other aspects : e-mails, etc.
Step 5. P50 Task
Ask Ss to compare their work and discuss any disagreements.

The Eighth Lesson

Encourage Ss to think about letter writing.

Explain the context.
