Unit 2 A telephone call Good afternoon, everyone. I’m***. I’m an English teacher from ***Primary School. I’m very pleased to have an opportunity to talk about some of my teaching ideas. Now I’ll say The second lesson: Part B, Part C and Part D of Unit 2in 5B of Oxford Primary School English.
I’ll prepare to say the lesson from four parts.
Part One Analysis of the Teaching Material:
(一) STATUS AND FUNCTION
The structure ”What’s wrong with you?” in this unit is related to the structure:” What’s the matter?” in unit9, Book 4A. We can take this opportunity to review what we learned before and children are more confident when they meet something they know already. For example, review the structure” Here’s …for you.” Then learn”I can get a/ some … for you.” The language required may be slightly beyond their existing proficiency, though challenging but achievable.
(二)ANALYSIS OF THE STUDENTS
The students have learned English for about 3 years, they have the abilities of listening, speaking and reading some words and use some structures. Though Ss have taken a great interest in English now, some of them are still too shy to speak English.
(三)TEACHING AIMS
1. Language aims: make the students master the words and structures in this unit.
2. Ability aims: Enable the students to use the structure in real situation.
3. Emotional aims: teach the students be friendly to others, especially those patients.
(四)TEACHING KEY AND DIFFICULT POINTS
1. Key points
First, the students can listen, read, speak and write the words: toothache, earache, backache, headache, stomach ache fever, cold and cough.
Second, the students can use the structures” What’s wrong with you?” and the answer:” I’ve got…”
2. Difficult points
Make the students can response” I feel…” with the structure:” I can get a/ some… for you.”
(五) TEACHING AIDS
1. Multi-media computer, Tape recorder and so on. They will be needed in
this lesson.
2. Ss Prepare a piece of paper.
Part Two The Teaching Methods
1. Communicative teaching method
I’ll set up a real situation, in this way, the Ss can say in pairs or in groups, they can say freely and needn’t worry about making mistakes.
2. Task-based” teaching method
I’ll give the Ss task to finish a survey, which can cultivate students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language.
Part three Teaching steps
Step 1 Warm up and Free talk
1. warm up
Game: Touch your nose/eyes/head/ear/tooth and layout back stomach
2. Free talk
T: How are you?
S: Fine thank you. /Not so good
If there’s someone said: “Not so good ”,The teacher asks: What’s the matter?
What’s wrong with you? And help the student to answer the question.
(”What’s the matter?” Have learned in Book 4A ,which has the same meaning of “What’s wrong with you?”)
Write on the blackboard: What’s wrong with you? Ask the students to read after the teacher. When the student answers, the teacher says:I’m sorry to hear that. I hope you get better soon.( Write on the blackboard and read after the teacher.)
(This step is to form a better situation for the students by doing TPR and speaking. They will come into the real surrounding of English learning, And it can also review the learnt knowledge for the next step.)
Step 2 Presentation1、Teach: toothache
a.T-S
T: How are you?
S: Not so good.
T: What’s wrong with you?
S: I’ve got a toothache. (do the action)
T: I’m sorry to hear that. I hope you get better soon.
b. show the card with” a toothache”
The students read after the teacher and say:a toothache a toothache I’ve got a toothache. (write on the blackboard :I’ve got a….)
c. Practice What’s wrong with you? I’ve got a…. I’m sorry to hear that. I hope you get
better soon. (show some patients or the pictures on page 18 on the screen)
work in T-S and S-S
( Teach the new words with the knowledgae they have learned, the students will feel ease and confidence,they will interested in Engilish.)
2、The similar way to teach: earache backache headache stomachache
and help the students to carry out the rule of “-ache”
3. Learn the words: fever cold cough
( This step is not to present the new words one by one, just with the help of the CAI
to show the sounds and let them to guess, they will be happy to try and be interested in the procedure of the learning. And the acting will help them get a better understanding of the phrases.)
