Good afternoon, everybody. Today, I’m going to talk about Unit 8 Part A from Oxford English book 3A. The topic is Let’s go to the park. This part is very important to the students because it’s very useful to them. As the topic is closed to the students’ daily life, I think they can be well stimulated. My teaching plan will be carried out in 5 parts.
Part1 My understanding of this lesson
Firstly, I will talk about the teaching contents of this lesson.
1. The new words and phrases: park, zoo, cinema, by bike, by plane.
2. The new sentence pattern: Let’s go to …. And its answers: All right./ OK. Let’s go. Good/ Great, but how?
Secondly, Teaching aims
Maybe some students have already known the name of some places. So to master these new words and phrases is my first teaching aim. My second is to learn the sentence patterns and make the students use them in their daily life. When I reach these two aims, training the students’ abilities of communication and cooperation is my third teaching aim.
Part2 The key points and difficulties.
I think the most important and difficult point of this period is to make sure that the students can use the patterns in their daily life correctly.
Part3 Teaching aids & methods
During the course of teaching, the multi-media computer, word &sentence cards are to be used to arouse the students’ interests.
In order to reach my aims, I’ll take the task-based method and group communication method as my teaching methods.
Part4 Teaching procedure
Step1 Warming up
As to warm up first, I’ll design some activities to make children cheer up. According to the principle that children learn best when they’re involved both physically and mentally.
Singing a song is a good choice, as it is helpful in creating the environment for learning. At the beginning, we’ll sing a song “Hello, How are you?” to greet with each other. Then I’ll ask them some questions, such as: What’s your name? How are you? etc. In this way, the can review what they have learned and prepare to go into the next step.
Step2 Presentation and practice
1. In this period, I’ll show a beautiful picture of a park and ask the students what place it is. If someone answers correctly, I will invite him and present the sentence pattern “Let’s go to ….”
2. After reading several times, I will say “Miss Feng wants to go to the park, too. Who can invite me?” In this way, students can practice “Let’s go to the park.” Then I’ll lead in its answers “Good/ OK/ All right/ Great. Let’s go.”
3. As the students have learned the words zoo, park, cinema when they were in Grade2, I will present the pictures on the screen directly. By showing the pictures quickly, let students guess what place it is. In this way, I can review the words and ask the students to read and spell them.
4. PPT will show 4 pictures for students to consolidate the sentence pattern. The last picture is Xi’an. Here I would emphasize there’s no “the” before Xi’an. At last, I ask one student to invite me to Xi’an. Here presents “But how?”.
5. By listening to the sounds of the vehicles, students can guess what they are. “by plane” and “by bike” will be present here.
6. Work in pairs. Ask them to make a dialogue with their partners, using the new sentence patterns “Let’s go to …!” “Good/ Great, but how?” “By ….” They can speak to several classmates who they want to co-operate with.
This part is very important of this lesson. The students’ abilities of speaking and communication will be well trained. Using the PPT to set a real surrounding and encourage them to communicate with others, they can say loudly and freely. They will feel happy and successful during this part. The students will understand the meaning of the patterns better and master the knowledge firmly.
Step3 Consolidation
Reading is a useful way for learning English, I’ll give them enough chance to read the dialogue in class. They can read individually, together or by themselves.
In order to check out whether they have grasped what they have learned in this period, I’ll show some exercises on PPT. They can be “Fill in the blanks”、 “True or false”、”Translation” etc.
If there is enough time, I’ll ask students to use the patterns to make their own dialogues with their patterns as the principle that children should be given more opportunities to use the similar language again and again. It can enhance the students’ ability of cooperation.
Step4 Homework
1. Read the dialogue after the tape until frequently.
2. Write down the dialogues they have just made.
Last but not the least is my blackboard design, that is the fifth part.
Blackboard design:
