Now I am going to say something about my ideas on teaching Part A of Unit6 Doing housework from oxford English 5 A.

First, I’d like to say something about the teaching content: It covers three parts, section 1 presents the words: moring, home, help,sleep and so on. And the sentences: Are you free now? what are you doing ? see you this afternoon ,  And so on. Section 2 provides a situation for the students to practice these words, phrases and sentence patterns. Section 3 elicits dialogues according to these words and sentence patterns. And we can see making dialogues can be something interesting to the students.

Well, now, I am going to say something about the teaching procedures I will take. It goes like this:
Step 1, warm up. I find it necessary to be a student-centered class, instead of teacher-centered and spoon feeding. I shall be a guide to encourage student-autonomy and teacher-student interaction. This will help the classroom atmosphere where the students can best learn.
I will ask the students to act out the dialogue they have learnt in the former unit .By this way I can make a bridge between the former unit and the new unit. I think such a kind of opening can bring me closer to the students.
Step 2, presentation. To avoid making it a boring lesson, I may begin the lesson with a video clip. While watching the video clip I will present the new words: moring, home, help,sleep and so on. And the sentences: Are you free now? what are you doing ? see you this afternoon And so on. And we can see the video clip can draw the students’ attention and curiosity. And it can help the students better understand what is being taught.
Step 3, practice. As we all known, that the students’ communicative skills can be achieved only when they have had enough language input and when their knowledge of language is put into use. So, for this reason, there should be a number of extension exercises to make the language happen in an authentic situation.
A group discussion on the dialogue will give the students a chance to practise the pronunciations of the new words, the correct use of the expressions and the correct ways of asking and answering questions with the sentence patterns. And it can also encourage students’ participation in class, a good teacher-student cooperation and students’ efforts to think in English.
Step 4, consolidation. Consolidation is realized through the after-class assignment. “Make dialogues” is one of the very effective exercise items. The students will be asked to make a dialogue after class with the language they have learnt in class.

Finally, we can see the students not only learn things from the text, but more about life. That’s all, thanks for listening.
