Unit 1 A new term Good afternoon, everyone. I’m ***. I’m an English teacher from ***Primary School. I’m very pleased to have an opportunity to talk about some of my teaching ideas. Now I’ll say The second lesson: Part B, Part C and Part F of Unit 1 in 5B of Oxford Primary School English. It is made up of four parts.
Part 1 My understanding of this lesson
1. The analysis of the teaching material:
This is the first unit of the new term. Talk about the subjects and the timetable at the first lesson of the new term, which is related to the real situation about the students. The structures are useful and the topic is interested by the students.
2. The analysis of the students
The students have learned the days of a week during the daily learning, so it is not difficulty for them to listen, read and speak, but it is a little difficulty for the students to write the words, especially “Tuesday” and “ Thursday” . As for the subjects, the students have learned “ English” and “ Chinese”. So I will teach the other words by reviewing the knowledge they have learned. In fact, most of the students dare not to speak English, for they are afraid of making mistakes.
3. Teaching aims:
A. Knowledge aims: make the students master the words and structures in unit. B. Ability aims: Enable the students to use the structures:” What day is it today?” “What lessons do you have in the morning/afternoon?” and the answers. C. Culture aims:
Cultivate the students’ activities.
4. Key points / Teaching important points:
The students can listen, read, speak and write the words in this unit, and they use the structures in this unit.
Teaching difficult points:
The tune of” Wednesday”, ”Saturday” “Social Science” and the meaning of “Tuesday” and “ Thursday”.
Part 2 My teaching theories, methods and aids
Before dealing with this lesson, I’ll do my best to carry out the following theories: Make the Ss the real masters in class while the teacher herself acts as director; Combine the language structures with the language functions; Cultivate the students’ activity, let the students know about the first day of a week is “ Sunday” and the weekends are ” Friday” and “ Saturday”.

T: Welcome back to school. What day is it today?
S: It’s Monday.
( As the old saying goes: A good start is Halfway to Success. So I always try my best to make the beginning a bit more interesting and unpredictable, which can make pupils look forward to English lessons as they often find something different in an English class. Singing and speaking can form a good surrounding for the students to learn English, and review the knowledge they have learned for the next step.)
Step 2. Presentation
I’ll mainly talk about this step.
1. Show the calendar on the CAI
T: Help the student to say Monday. and teach the word. Then compare the pronunciations of “day”,” today” and “ Monday”
Ss: Read the word several times.
T: What’s the first day of a week?
S: It’s Sunday.
T: Oh, you are clever! When can we stay at home?
S: Sunday and Saturday.
T: Teach the word of “ Saturday.”
Ss: Learn the word of “ Saturday”
T: When the weekend?
Ss: Friday and Saturday.
T: Teach the word “ Friday”
Ss: Learn the word” Friday”
T: What are the other days of a week?
Ss: They are “ Tuesday” and “ Thursday”
2. T: Teach the words, and ask:” What lessons do you have on Tuesday?”
Let’s have a look at the timetable. Show the timetable on the CAI and learn the subjects. Write the structures on the blackboard.
(This step is not to present the new words one by one, just with the help of the CAI and the pictures, it can provide a real situation to understand the meaning of the words and to arouse the Ss’ interest in English learning.)
3. Read
Ask the students to open the books turn to page 8 read the new words after the tape.
( I think reading is an important ability for the students in Grade 5, ask them to read after the tape can train the students’ good sense of English and have a good pronunciation. )
