Words: long, longer ,short shorter stronger strong, big bigger ,small, smaller ,fat fatter, thin thinner.
Structures: Who is….,xx or xx?(比较级)
          XX is …. than XX.
2.Four skills: tall, taller, young,younger,old,older,heavy,heavier.
3.Grammar: Comparison
Teaching importance &difficulties:
1.        Drill: Who is …? (比较级)
2.        Usage of comparison。
Teaching aids: Pics ,tape, radio, real items and computer.

Teaching process:
Step 1 Free talk and motivation
T: Hello, class. Welcome back to school.
Q1: Did you have a good winter holiday?
Q2: What did you do at Spring Festival?
Step 2 Presentation
1.        T: Hello,XX. How old are you? (S1&S2 answer)
T: S1 is 12 years old. S2 is 13 years old.
  So S1 is younger than S2. Who is younger?
Ss: S1 is …
T: Good. Today we’ll learn -----(Unit 1 Who’s younger?)
(Ss read the title for several times.)
2.( Teach the words “young,younger, old, older” and structures “Who’s younger/older, A or B?  A/B is ….than A/B.”)
T: Ok. Listen carefully. A is ten years old. B is twelve years old. They are young.  C is 60 years old. D is 70 years old. They’re old.
(板书 A 10 B 12 C 60 D 70)
T:(Teach “old”and “young”并板书 )
Ss:( Guess the meaning of young and follow the teacher.)
T: Now.Please tell me. Who is younger, A or B?
S1&S2:A is younger than B.
T: Good. (Teach “younger”更年轻的 and “than”比。。) (板书younger,  Who is younger, A or B?   A is younger than B.)
Ss: (1)Read the words and sentences. (2) Pair work
(Using the same way to teach old/older and the drill.)
3.(Teach the words “tall, taller, short, shorter”)
T: A and B stand up,please.
Oh, they are(Ss: tall). Can you spell it?
Ss:Yes. T-a-l-l.(板书)
T:But who is taller, A or B?
S1，S2，S3:.. is taller than ..（板书taller）
(Choose some Ss to stand up and pair work)
(Using the same way to teach “short, shorter”)
4.(Teach “strong, stronger, ”)
T:(Pic) The man in blue is strong. (板书strong)
      The man in red is---- stronger.(板书 stronger)
T:Who’s stronger, you or your father?
Ss: My father is.
5.Using the same way to teach the other words.
Pay attention to the change of the words.
Big-bigger,  fat-fatter  thin-thinner  heavy-heavier
Step 3 Summary of the comparison
1.        Ss think about the formation and the change of the comparison.
2.        T summarizes the grammar.
比较级的结构：比较级+than   e.g I am younger than my sister.
形容词比较级的规则变化
1. 单音节词末尾加er   tall-taller  small-smaller
2.单音节次如果以-e结尾，只加-r   brave-braver
3.闭音节词如末尾只有一个辅音字母，须双写这个字母，再加-er
Big- bigger   thin-thinner
3.        少数以y结尾的词，如果y前是辅音字母，则变y为i,再加er.  heavy-heavier
Step 4 Look, listen and read
1.        Listen to the tape and read the words.
2.        Read the words after T.
3.        Read the words together.
4.        Try to recite the words.
Step 5Practice and consolidation (Part C)
1.        Read the dialogues together.
2.        Ss work in pairs.

Step6 Homework
1.        Copy part B and be ready for dictation.
