Unit1 Public signs (the first period)
Teaching content:
Part B, C
Teaching aims:
1.        Enable students to listen, say, read and write the words: Don’t touch. Keep off the grass. Be quiet, Danger, sign, mean.
2.        Enable students to listen, say, read and write the sentences: What does this sign mean? It means…
Teaching key points:
1.        the ask and answer of Part C
Teaching aids:
pictures, tape and tape recorder.
Teaching steps:
Step1: Greetings
1.        T-Ss greet each other.
2.        A game: “Listen and do”
Stand up. Touch your left hand.
Touch your shoulder. Touch your finger.
Touch your mouth. Sit down.
Step2. Presentation
T: Good! You should touch the right place. But at this sign.
  (Show the sign “Do not touch”) It means ‘Do not touch’ (repeat twice)
1.        Teach “Do not touch” “It means…”
T: OK. Read like this: touch↗↘Do not touch.
Ss read together.
T: Good. Boys read again.
Boys read again.
T: (gestures) Listen. Girls read again.
Girls read again.
T: (gestures) Listen and look. (show “be quiet”)
This is a sign, too. It means “Be quiet”. (repeat)
2.        Teach “Be quiet” “It means…”
T: OK. Read like this: quiet↗↘Be quiet.
Ss read together.
T: (show the first sign) What does this sign mean?
S: “Do not touch”.
T: Yes. It means “Do not touch”.

S: It means “Be quiet”.
3.        Consolidate “Do not touch” “Be quiet” “It means…”
T asks and Ss answer.
4. Teach “ What does this sign mean?” &answer.
T: Good. This is a sign. It means “Do not touch”.
   This is a sign. It means “Be quiet”.
5. Teach “sign”
Step3. Consolidation and presentation.
1.        Show Picture 6 of Part C
T←→S: What does this sign mean?
        It means ‘Do not touch”.
S←→S   T←→S
2.        Show the sign “Be quiet”.
S←→S   T←→S
3.        Show Picture 2 of Part C
T: What does that sign mean?
Ss: Sorry, I don’t know. (gesture, Ss ask)
T: It means “Keep off the grass” (repeat twice)
Teach “Keep off the grass”( Pay attention to ‘that’)

4.        Show Picture 1 of Part A.
T: Excuse me. Does it mean ‘Keep off the grass’?
S: No, it doesn’t.
T: What does it mean?
S: It means “Danger”(T can help to answer)
Teach “Danger”
Step4. A game and consolidation
Look and guess.
Good memory.
Read together.
Step5. Homework
1.        Listen to the tape and read for half an hour.
2.        Copy the words four times: public , sign , mean , danger, grass , keep off , touch , quiet , do not=don’t

Step2. Presentation
1.        Quick response.
T shows the signs that have learnt. Ask Ss to say the meaning at once.
Change “No eating or drinking”
What does this sign mean?
It means ‘No eating or drinking’.
2.        Continue response twice. Change “No parking”.
What does this sign mean?
It means ‘No parking’.
3.        Teach V—Ving
Eating-eat, drinking- drink, parking-park
4.        Draw and guess.
T draws on the Bb slowly and Ss guess.
No littering
  Ss: No parking. No eating and drinking etc. T tells the answer: No littering.
No smoking.
  Ss: No… Do not touch etc. T tells the answer: No smoking. (注意还原e)
Step3. Practice
1.        Read the signs together (8)
2.        T-Ss ask and answer(3)
3.        Show Picture 3&5 of Part C
4.        Act it in pairs.
Step4. Presentation
1.        T-Ss Ss-T(smoking)
A: What does this sign mean?
B: It means “No smoking”.
A: What does this sign mean?
B: It means you shouldn’t smoke.
2.        Explain “shouldn’t”. Teach “It means you shouldn’t…

1.        S-S practice and act. (Part B)
2.        Dictate the phrases and design the signs.

2.        enable students to know the meaning of the dialogue.
3.        enable students to read and act the story out.
Teaching keypoint:
1.        the phrases.
2.        Enable students to read the dialogue fluently.
Teaching aids:
Pictures and tape recorder.
Teaching steps:
1.        Greetings

Which day is the first day of a week?
2. Revision

  (Show the pictures and ask and answer)
3. Ss act the dialogue out.

4.        Enable ss to describe the flash by themselves.
