Teaching aim:

Learn the following new words: quarter/ half / past / to, know how to say the time with to and past, learn the new drill: It’s time for….

2.
Learn how to say the time with past or to, and try to describe the timetable.

Improve the interest of learning English, help students to speak in English, and increase their confidence.

Say the time with to and past correctly and fluently, learn to introduce the timetable.

Teaching aids:

CAI and some cards of drills.

Teaching procedure:

Step one:

1.
Warming up: review some number

2.
Make phrases to review some verbs: play / go / have

3.
Free talk: have supper also can say have dinner, teach dinner, then ask:

I have dinner at six thirty, What time do you have dinner?

Step two

1.
Presentation: Today I have a lot of time, can you ask and answer?

T shows 7: 10, boys and girls ask and answer: What’s the time? It’s seven ten.

T shows 5: 20, girls and boys ask and answer: What’s the time? It’s five twenty.

T shows 2:10 , T tells Ss What’s the time?= What time is it? Then teaches “what time is it?”

Ss answer it’s two ten. Then tell Ss “It’s two ten.” We also can say“It’s ten past two.” Teach “past” : read , spell, tell “ past” means “过”, pay attention to the difference: “

分在past前，时在past后。

Learn to say with “past”: two ten we can say ten past two, can you say 5:20, 7:10

Learn the new word: quarter

T shows 2:15, S1 says it’s fifteen past two. T tells them a quarter means fifteen, so we can say a quarter past two. Teach quarter: read, the pronunciation of “ar”, say the time with a quarter

Learn the new word: half

T shows 2:30, S1 says it’s two thirty. T tells them half means thirty, so we can say half past two. Teach half: read, the pronunciation of “al”, say the time with half

consolidation: 1) pairs work : one says the time in Chinese, one says in English.

2) Play the game: say quickly

Learn to say the time with “to”

T shows 2:40,tell them to say twenty to three: to means “差”, 差几分就放在to前，小时加上一后放在to 之后。T shows some phrases and Ss read together and tell the time, then T show the time S speaks in English.

7.
summarization: T shows some phrases with past and to, Ss read together and find the rules of them: 用to 和 past时，分在前，时在后，30分或30分之前用past, 超过30分要用to,小时要加一。
