Unit 2.4 A telephone call

Teaching aims:
1.Enable the students to make telephone calls in English and get them to know how to behave themselves on the telephone.
2.Enable the students to understand and  use the dialogue.
3.Encourage the students to have good cooperation with one another.
Teaching key points:
1.Enable the students to read and understand the words : absent, stay in bed, a bad cough, take some medicine
2.Enable the students to understand, read and say the sentence patterns: May I speak to … This is…speaking.
Teaching aids:
1.Word cards.
2.A tape & recorder.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1.Free talk
1.依次出示牙痛图、耳痛图、背痛图、头痛图
T :Look, there are some patients in the hospital. What’s wrong with them?( Let students talk about it.)
She/he has got a….
She can/need to….

Step 2. Presentation and practice
1.Ask one student his/her name and his/her home telephone number, using the following sentences:
T: Hello. Is that 8614761?
S: Yes.
T: May I speak to Xiao Long? (with gestures)
S: This is Xiao Long speaking.
T: How are you?

2.T Write the pattern May I speak to...?on the blackboard and teach them how to use it on the phone.
3.Ask the students to make calls based on Part F in groups.
4.Play a game, Which is Miss Li’s telephone number?
Give three new numbers to the students, let them remember them for a few minutes, second, divide one group of students into three groups, each play the role of Miss Li,  Liu Tao and Su Hai, then let the other students choose one number to call.
Step3. Revision
1T: On Wednesday, all the students are at school, but Helen is not at school, she’s absent.
T: where is she? 动作
She is stay in bed. (Ss: stay in bed)
T:  What’s wrong with her?
Ss: She’s got a bad cough.(  a bad cough)
T: What can she do? 动作
S1: take some medicine
S2: have a lot of rest
2.Ask the students to read the new words and the sentences on the blackboard.
3. Ask the students to talk about: if you are ill, what can you do?
4. Ask the students to retell the dialogue in their own words in pairs. Act the dialogue.
5. Helen is still ill on Thursday, she goes to a hospital. At the doctor’s, she sees a woman, Jane. What’s wrong with her?  Listen to the tape for Part (E)once.
6. Explain
T: What’s in the pencil—box.?
S1: Some pencils.
T: Anything else?
Some pens and rulers.     
T: Anything else?
7. Let’s retell the story about Jane.
Step 4. Homework
1. Copy the phrases
2. Read and recite A:
